Supporting Cody Hunter: A Young Apprentice Overcoming the Odds

At the Building and Construction Foundation, we believe in the power of resilience and determination to shape a brighter future. Today, we are proud to share the story of Cody Hunter, a young apprentice who embodies these values as he pursues his passion for cabinet making.

Cody’s journey has been far from easy. At just 16 years old, he has faced significant challenges that would be overwhelming for anyone, let alone someone so young. Cody has encountered personal and family difficulties that have made it hard for him to receive the support most people take for granted. Despite these struggles, Cody remains steadfast in his commitment to building a better life for himself.

Cody is enrolled full-time in a four-year apprenticeship program at Melbourne Polytechnic, where he is studying for a Certificate III in Cabinet Making. His dedication to his trade is evident, but financial and personal barriers threatened to derail his progress. With little support at home, Cody is forced to pay for his TAFE fees, living expenses, and even basic necessities like work boots—all on a first-year apprentice’s wage.

Cody’s situation is a stark reminder of the difficult circumstances that many young people in our community face. Yet, despite the odds, Cody is determined to succeed. He dreams of one day running his own business and is working tirelessly to break free from the cycles of poverty and instability that have marked his family’s history.

The Foundation’s MBAV Early Career Scholarship, sponsored by Master Builder’s Victoria is our way of recognising Cody’s potential and supporting his journey. This scholarship will enable Cody to pay off his student debt, replace his worn-out workwear, and continue his studies without the constant stress of financial insecurity.

We believe in Cody’s future and are committed to helping him achieve his goals. But there are many others like Cody who need our support. By contributing to our scholarship fund and community programs, you can help us make a lasting impact on the lives of young people facing similar challenges.

Join us in supporting Cody and others like him who are striving to build a better future. Together, we can create opportunities for those who need them most and make a real difference in our industry and community.
